Once upon a time there was a beautiful redheaded girl whose very favorite thing in the whole world was frozen yogurt. While many little girls grow up dreaming about their weddings (the big white dress! the horse-drawn carriage! the prince!), this little girl imagined a place where she could go to enjoy her favorite frozen treat. She dreamt that the yogurt would be delicious and all-natural, it would be low-calorie and low-fat, and there would be lots of fresh and fun toppings to put on top.

The girl grew up to be a very busy, hardworking woman. Between showing her horses, traveling the world, and helping to run a vast family business along with her full-time job, she realized that she just couldn’t find the time to make her frozen yogurt shop a reality. If only she could find someone to help her….

By a strange twist of fate and some good fortune, the girl met another redhead who loved frozen yogurt just as much as she did! Even better, this friend knew two more fro-yo loving people who were passionate about the positive impact that independent restaurants have on the local community.

Thus the birth of Local Yogurt, Durham’s first independently owned frozen yogurt shop!

Local Yogurt is everything that the little girl imagined in her childhood dreams: It’s a bright and cheerful place filled with friends, great seating, big windows for good people-watching, and—best of all—offers four flavors of natural frozen yogurt along with a delectable selection of fruit, cereal, candy, and other toppings.

The shop’s concept is based upon one particular flavor—Original--a creamy, tart, plain frozen yogurt that is similar in flavor to plain yogurt, but it’s frozen. It is delicious on its own or makes a wonderful base for almost any topping you can dream up. Original will always be available at Local Yogurt, but because the four LoYo partners love adventure and spontaneity (and know that Durham does, too!), the three additional flavors and many of the toppings will rotate on a regular basis. Your suggestions are always welcome.

Thank you for visiting www.localyogurt.com. We hope to see you in person at Local Yogurt, our dream-come-true, and what we like to call The Happiest Place in Durham.

Ted Domville

Ted Domville is currently the co-owner and manager of Local Yogurt. Ted attended college at Marquette University in  Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he holds a degree in Business Administration.  Ted also studied in the commerce program at University College Galway in Galway, Ireland.

After college Ted spent 8 years in Corporate Purchasing for a Fortune 500 company where he got much of his experience in procurement, negotiation, finance, international business and business law.  Ted's final role was Global Sourcing from India and South Korea

Leaving behind a successful corporate career, Ted left to follow his passion of cooking.  After serving in Washington, DC and moonlighting at a French country restaurant in Wisconsin, Ted moved to San Diego and quickly worked his way up through the best restaurants San Diego had to offer. Ted first worked the world-famous La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla.  Ted was drafted by the departing Executive Chef to open the Crosby Club, a private golf club in Rancho Santa Fe, California.  After the Crosby, Ted went to work for a woman entrepreneur voted “Best Restaurateur” by the California Restaurant Association, Tracy Borkum.  Ted first worked at Borkum's Laurel – a Mobil Four-Star fine-dining French Restaurant - before becoming the sous chef at a sister property, Chive.

While at Chive, Ted got the opportunity for a working vacation (called a stage in the restaurant industry) at the restaurant Gourmet Magazine has ranked #11 in the nation for 10 years straight - Magnolia Grill -  here in Durham, North Carolina.  Ted liked the area and restaurant scene so much he moved shortly after his stage and became the opening chef at Six Plates.  Ted's stint as Executive Chef at Six Plates gained notice locally in publications such as Durham Magazine, The Independent, and the News and Observer.

Ted opened Local Yogurt as a co-owner and after a very successful opening, left Six Plates to manage the store and guide its bright future.
